Here is the text of the emails I just sent to my U.S. Senators, Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey,

I grant the right under Creative Commons for anyone who wishes to repurpose this text for their own use when contacting their elected representative.

Dear Senator Warren,
In light of recent allegations and ongoing concern about foreign meddling in the U.S. Electoral process, and in light of concerns that President-Elect Trump may, in effect, be influenced by a foreign power--and in light of ongoing problems with the incoming administration regarding Hatch and anti-nepotism law violations--I strongly support your efforts to use every legal means to vet such appointees of the incoming administration as are subject to Senate confirmation, and oppose those who are unfit for duty.
You're a fighter, Betsy, and you're our voice. Please speak loud and clear.
Best,

Dear Senator Markey,

In light of recent allegations and ongoing concern about foreign meddling in the U.S. Electoral process, and in light of concerns that President-Elect Trump may, in effect, be influenced by a foreign power--and in light of ongoing problems with the incoming administration regarding Hatch and anti-nepotism law violations--I strongly support your efforts to use every legal means to vet such appointees of the incoming administration as are subject to Senate confirmation, and oppose those who are unfit for duty.

We believe in you, Ed. You have our voice. Be loud with it.

Best,

Thanks for this. Much more eloquent than anything I would have come up with.

I have been trying to compose a letter to my Senators too, and I keep wondering if I should capitalize the word Quisling or not..

I would think yes?

It's a proper name, after all.

And yet, Dictionary.com (http://www.dictionary.com/browse/quisling?s=t) says no.

Hrm. I still kinda feel that it should be capitalised, but, I am not a wordsmith. *shrug*

It doesn't matter what they claim to support. Senators and representatives are VERY interested in hearing what their constituents want. Way back when I was a high school student and the NEA was under attack, I wrote to my two Republican senators. The moderate one pledged to keep the NEA funded and the second one said that these were very bad artworks but senators should not be art critics (my first vote was against that guy and he lost).

Regardless, there are ways that you can talk to your senators. Pay attention to the nominees. Do you think that Jeff Sessions is a racist. That might work, but also he believes in civil forfeiture which is a major libertarian concern because it means the cops can legally steal from people. Frame it as a libertarian issue.

Same thing with Rex Tillerson. Bring out the big Cold War guns and say that you are afraid that Russia is going to control America if this guy is confirmed.

Regardless, there are ALWAYS excuses to not write to your senators. If they are in your political party, they don't need the letters. If they are opposed to your views, they won't listen.

BUT that doesn't matter. Furthermore it's a way of thinking that keeps idiots in power (same as "I don't vote because I'm too pure for this and it won't matter").

We are not going to defeat Trump if we don't keep on our senators and keep pushing them - regardless. There are plenty of Republicans who hate Trump but don't want to go against their party. Give your senators the opportunity.

that was a reply to the one underneath mine.

Anyhow I am writing to Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. I am mostly using their websites but i am also writing them physical letters. I should call too.

I know that they agree with me but I want to make sure that they are extra diligent in carrying out my will.

Of course, I am tempted to take the opposite despair in knowing that my Democrat senators are gonig to vote like I want them to regardless. But then again, even Paul Wellstone voted for DOMA so we got to keep on these guys.

Unfortunately, the asshole senators from my state support all this nonsense. I hate living in the bible belt.

So give them hell. Silence will be treated as consent.
